Scots Close Regular Season at 13th-Ranked Denison

Nebyou Minassie, Wooster Tennis GRANVILLE, Ohio – With the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament bracket already unveiled, Sunday's regular-season finale was potentially a semifinal preview match, which 13th-ranked Denison University won 9-0 over The College of Wooster men's tennis team.

Denison (18-3), the number one seed from the west, and Wooster (11-7), the number two seed from the east, will meet up in Saturday's NCAC Tournament semifinal should both win their respective Friday matches.

The Big Red quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Timmy Cianciola and Jack Bulger won 8-1 over seniors Alon Liberman and Austin Hanna at first singles. Further down the lineup, senior Nebyou Minassie and junior Alex Drewes fell 8-4 at No. 2 and sophomore Shivam Dewan and first-year Patrick Johnson shook hands at 8-3 at No. 3.

Liberman (6-2, 6-1) won three games off Cianciola in a battle of top-13-ranked regional singles players. Hanna fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, while Drewes dropped a pair of 6-3 sets in the third flight. Minassie dropped the first set of his match against Andy Mackler 6-0, then pushed the Big Red's fourth flight in the second set before eventually falling 7-5. Dewan and Johnson both lost 6-2, 6-0 in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

Wooster opens the NCAC Tournament against archnemesis Wittenberg University (6-10) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Denison is serving as host of this year's championships.
