Wooster Duo Tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes

Alon Liberman, Patrick Johnson, Wooster tennis NCAA Div. III ITA Men's Academic Awards Release

The College of Wooster's Patrick Johnson and Alon Liberman qualified for Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced recently by the coaching organization.

Johnson stepped into a key role and provided an instant spark to the men's tennis team's lineup. He won a co-team-leading 15 singles matches on the year, and added 10 victories in doubles. Johnson rattled off seven wins in his first nine collegiate matches, headlined by a 6-0, 6-3 victory over John Carroll University, as Wooster knocked off the then-six-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion in a dual match.

Liberman was a first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference performer in singles and doubles, and capped his career as a four-time all-conference selection. Liberman went 15-4 in singles, which included a remarkable 14-4 ledger in the top flight. Liberman won 27 matches on the year, with the other 12 coming in doubles. He opened the year with eight straight wins in singles and was undefeated in NCAC East Division play in doubles.

Student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, while teams must have a GPA of at least 3.2 for the current academic year.
