Men’s Tennis Opens Fall Season at Division II Walsh

 

Patrick Johnson The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened its fall schedule Saturday at Walsh University, where the Division II school defeated the Scots 7-0.

In doubles play, Shivam Dewan and Patrick Johnson lost 6-4 to Philip Peter Carstensen and Ethan Milgan in the No. 1 doubles flight. Newcomers Gabriel Escobar and Namit Misra fell 6-3 in the No. 2 flight, and Alex Drewes and Walker Wood took a 6-2 loss in the No. 3 slot.

In singles play, Drewes played in the No. 1 flight but fell 6-1, 6-0 to Luis Hernandez. Dewan fell 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 slot, and Johnson battled in the No. 3 flight but fell 6-3, 7-5.

Escobar lost in the No. 4 flight after retiring in the second set 6-3, 1-0. Misra lost 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 flight, and first-year Atomu Maruyama fell 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 flight.

The men return to action the weekend of Sept. 24 when they part in the Denison Big Red Invitational.
