Scots Sweep Grove City for Season’s First Win

Connor Streeter The College of Wooster men's tennis team collected its first victory of the 2022-23 campaign as the Scots swept Grove City College 9-0 at Aspen Racquet Club. 

A slight adjustment to the doubles lineup helped the Scots (1-3) jump out to a quick 3-0 lead. Gabriel Escobar and Patrick Johnson paired up at the No. 1 flight and won 8-4. The new No. 2 team of Shivam Dewan and Namit Misra won 8-5. Alex Drewes and Walker Wood stuck together at the No. 3 flight and dispatched their opponents with an 8-4 score. 

Wooster captured all the singles matches en route to the sweep, dropping only one set across all six matches. Escobar led the way with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot.

Drewes battled his opponent to a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. Dewan did not drop a game in the No. 3 flight, winning 6-0, 6–0.

Johnson won at No. 4 by scores of 7-5, 6-4. Grove City (3-1) nabbed the first set in the No. 5 singles match, but Misra battled back to collect the three-set win, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3). Connor Streeter made his season debut in the singles' lineup at the No. 6 spot and collected a 7-5, 6-2 win. 

The Scots have a quick turnaround as they hit the courts again at Aspen Racquet Club on Sunday to take on Capital University.
