Drewes Gives Wooster its Lone Win in NCAC Matchup with Little Giants

Alex Drewes The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Aspen Racquet Club with an 8-1 defeat to Wabash College (10-4, 1-0 NCAC).

Alex Drewes gave the Scots its lone win in the No. 2 singles flight, 1-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (7).

Wooster (4-7, 0-1 NCAC) also had a tight contest in the No. 1 flight but it didn't end up going Wooster's way as Gabriel Escobar fell 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7).

Going back to doubles play, Escobar also lost a tiebreaker there in the No. 1 doubles flight. He and Patrick Johnson lost to Cole Borden and Liam Grennon 8-7 (3).

Elsewhere, Drewes and Dewan fell 8-3 in the No. 2 flight, and Connor Streeter and Walker Wood lost 8-4 in the No. 3 slot.

Johnson fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles flight. Dewan took a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 4. 

Streeter lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Alex Anikeeff fell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 flight.

The Scots will host the other NCAC team from Indiana, DePauw University, on Sunday. The match is planned to take place outdoors on campus at 2:15 p.m.
