The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Aspen Racquet Club with an 8-1 defeat to Wabash College (10-4, 1-0 NCAC).
Alex Drewes gave the Scots its lone win in the No. 2 singles flight, 1-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (7).
Wooster (4-7, 0-1 NCAC) also had a tight contest in the No. 1 flight but it didn't end up going Wooster's way as Gabriel Escobar fell 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7).
Going back to doubles play, Escobar also lost a tiebreaker there in the No. 1 doubles flight. He and Patrick Johnson lost to Cole Borden and Liam Grennon 8-7 (3).
Elsewhere, Drewes and Dewan fell 8-3 in the No. 2 flight, and Connor Streeter and Walker Wood lost 8-4 in the No. 3 slot.
Johnson fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles flight. Dewan took a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 4.
Streeter lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Alex Anikeeff fell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 flight.
The Scots will host the other NCAC team from Indiana, DePauw University, on Sunday. The match is planned to take place outdoors on campus at 2:15 p.m.
