Scots End Tough Weekend With 14th-Ranked Denison

Shivam Dewan GRANVILLE -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team ended its weekend playing another of the North Coast Athletic Conference's top teams, falling to Denison University 9-0.

Denison, ranked 14th nationally and fifth regionally, won in straight sets in both doubles and singles play.

Wooster's No. 1 team of Gabriel Escobar and Patrick Johnson and No. 3 team of Alex Anikeeff and Walker Wood each fell 8-2. The No. 2 team of Alex Drewes and Shivam Dewan lost 8-0.

Drewes and Dewan put up the best fight in singles play. Drewes lost his No. 2 match 6-0, 6-2, while Dewan fell 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 flight.

The rest of Wooster's roster went down 6-0, 6-0 with Escobar in the No. 1 flight, Atomu Maruyama at No. 4, Wood at No. 5 and Jack Bowers at No. 6.

Denison moves to 20-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Wooster is now 4-10 and 0-4 in the NCAC. The Scots travel to Oberlin College on Wednesday for another NCAC showdown.
