Men’s Tennis Drops 5-4 Contest to Conclude Regular Season

Shivam Dewan VIENNA - The College of Wooster men's tennis team concluded the regular season by dropping a tightly contested 5-4 match to Allegheny College at the Squaw Creek Country Club.

Wooster took a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Although the No. 1 flight of first-year Gabriel Escobar and sophomore Patrick Johnson dropped an 8-4 decision, the other two courts took care of business for the Scots.

Junior Shivam Dewan and first-year Namit Misra combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles while the No. 3 team of seniors Alex Drewes and Connor Streeter grabbed an 8-5 win.

Allegheny regrouped in singles play, capturing four of the six matches. Wooster won on the No. 4 court as Dewan notched his 50th career victory across both singles and doubles by a 6-1, 6-3 score. The Scots also won at No. 6 singles as Streeter battled back from one set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).

However, it was not enough to hold on for the victory as Escobar fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Drewes lost 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 flight. Johnson lost 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles and Misra dropped a hard fought 6-4, 7-5 match at No. 5 singles despite holding a lead in the second set.

The Scots will begin postseason action on Friday, April 28, for the NCAC Tournament Quarterfinals against a to-be-determined opponent.
