No Upset in Cards for Men’s Tennis

Alex Drewes GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster men's tennis team fell in the quarterfinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.

The sixth-seeded Scots could not pull off the upset over the host Tigers of DePauw University as Wooster went down 5-0.

DePauw swept doubles action, which was something they didn't do against the Scots in their first time out as the team of Alex Drewes and Shivam Dewan captured an 8-6 win in the No. 2 flight earlier this month.

However, new lineups brought new results.

Drewes tried to capture the win with Connor Streeter in the No. 3 flight. Despite putting forth the closest result, the duo fell 8-6.

Dewan teamed with Namit Misra in the No. 2 flight, taking an 8-3 loss. The DePauw team of Cole Metzger and Hudson Mosher were the same pair from the team's earlier outing.

Finally, in the No. 1 match, Patrick Johnson and Gabriel Escobar struggled against Thomas Partridge and Ryan McCook. After an 8-6 outing last time out, the DePauw pair got the better of the Scots with an 8-1 victory.

Metzger gave DePauw its first singles victory in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Misra in the No. 5 slot. The match ended after Streeter fell 6-0, 6-0 to Grayson Zylstra in the No. 6 flight.

The remaining matches went unfinished, but the Scots were behind after each flight lost a 6-1 first set.

Earlier in the day, Denison defeated Wittenberg 5-0, and Kenyon beat Ohio Wesleyan 5-0. DePauw advances to face No. 2 Kenyon on Saturday.

The Wooster men finish the year at 6-13 overall.
