Wooster Victorious In Debut at New On-Campus Courts

Wooster Men's Tennis Team WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster's 12 new tennis courts on the northeast end of campus were christened with a Fighting Scots' victory, as the men's tennis team took down Trine University 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Wooster, which won its third fall dual opener over the last four fall seasons, fittingly saw the clincher come from senior Shivam Dewan. The biochemistry and molecular biology major took the third singles match from Andrew Spirrison 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (4).

Wooster was victorious in the bottom four singles flights, and two of those wins came from Scots making their collegiate debuts. Anthony VanOyen made quick work of Trine's (3-1) Elijah Schilthuis at fourth singles, posting a pair of 6-1 sets. In the fifth flight, Arnav Yadav turned aside Caleb Morris 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Namit Misra's 6-4, 7-5 win over Trine's Drew Dixon was the other Wooster singles win.

The Scots were up 2-1 after doubles. Jay Dixit, a first-year, and Misra posted an 8-1 line on the Thunder's Jen Nicholas and Evan Nay in the third flight. Later, junior Patrick Johnson and VanOyen took the second flight from Dixon and Cole Goodman 8-3.

Elsewhere, Dewan and Yadav dropped a highly-energized 8-6 match at first doubles, Johnson fell 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, and Dixit's single match ended in a 6-3, 7-5 setback.

Wooster returns to action at the non-scoring Kenyon College Invitational, which takes place September 16-17.
