Men’s tennis plays in first invite of season

GAMBIER – The College of Wooster men's tennis team played in the non-scoring Kenyon Invitational over the weekend.

Shivam Dewan was a highlight, winning both his singles matches and two of three doubles matches.

He needed third set super tiebreakers to win both singles matches but got the job done, defeating Allegheny's David Rodriguez (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7)) and John Carroll's Grant Sarnowski (1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10)).

In doubles play, he teamed with Arnav Yadav for a pair of 6-1, 6-1 victories.

Yadav was one of four Scots to win at least two singles matches on the weekend. He took a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9) win over John Carroll's Logan Langovsky and won against another Blue Streak, Anthony Markello, 6-2, 6-2.

First-year Jay Dixit took two wins over two different Otterbein opponents, winning 6-1, 7-6 and 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (5). Walker Wood did the same, picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win and a 7-5, 6-1 win.

First-year Anthony VanOyen won all three of his singles matches. He defeated two Otterbein players 6-0, 6-4 and 8-4, and also defeated Allegheny's Will Jarvie 6-2, 6-2.

Bennett Dickerson, Jack Bowers, Max Stratford and Namit Misra all won one singles match.

In doubles play, Dixit and VanOyen paired for a couple of wins, giving VanOyen five total wins on the weekend – the most of any Scot.

They beat a pair of John Carroll teams, 6-2 and 6-0.

Bowers and Walker Wood won a match together, as did Misra and Patrick Johnson.

Next, Wooster will play in the ITA Regional Tournament the weekend of Sept. 29.
