First-years Provide Boost for Men's Tennis

The College of Wooster men's tennis team made it close but ultimately fell to Hope College 5-4 to open its 2024 season at Aspen Racquet Club on Friday.

The Scots were led by a pair of wins from first-years Jay Dixit and Anthony VanOyen. The duo teamed together for an 8-7 (4) No. 1 doubles win and gave Wooster wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles flights.

Dixit played plenty of tennis Friday night taking the No. 1 flight 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6). Meanwhillle, VanOyen won straight across 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 3 spot.

Wooster's other two doubles pairs, (Shivam Dewan/Max Stratford and Arnav Yadav/Namit Misra) each fell 8-6.

Another first-year, Yadav, gave Wooster its other win in the No. 4 singles flight, 6-2, 7-5.

Dewan took the loss at the No. 2 flight, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Misra fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and Bennett Dickerson lost 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 flight.

Wooster will look again for its first win in 2024 when they take on John Carroll University on Feb. 2.
