VanOyen, Yadav Win for Scots against Polar Bears

Anthony VanOyen, Wooster Tennis LEXINGTON, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's tennis team suffered its first loss in nearly a month, falling 7-2 to Ohio Northern University in non-conference action at Lakewood Racquet Club.

Seeking its third straight win over an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent this month, Wooster (4-2) quickly found itself in a hole as Ohio Northern (7-3) swept doubles play. Senior Shivam Dewan and first-year Arnav Yadav put up the Scots' best effort in the No. 2 flight, falling by an 8-6 score. In the other two doubles flights, Wooster fell by identical 8-4 scores. First-years Jay Dixit and Anthony VanOyen were at No. 1 and sophomore Namit Misra and first-year Max Stratford at No. 3.

Yadav recorded the Scots first point of the afternoon, winning on the No. 4 singles court with an identical score line of 6-3, 6-3. In the last match left on the courts, VanOyen prevailed for the 6-0, 7-6 (7) win in a very up-and-down match at No. 2 singles. The first-year blanked his opponent in the opening set but was pushed to the limits in the second frame, eventually winning in the set tiebreak. Meanwhile, Stratford won the first set of his No. 6 singles match, but then was pushed into a third-set tiebreaker which Ohio Northern ultimately won 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (3).

Dixit fell at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0. Dewan lost in the third singles flight 6-1, 6-3. Misra overcame a bagel in the first set at No. 5 singles but ultimately fell 6-0, 7-5.

Wooster returns to the courts on Monday, March 4, against Shenandoah University as part of the team's annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
