Men’s Tennis Wins Thriller Over Yeomen

There were plenty of tiebreakers and three setters Wednesday at Aspen Racquet Club, but The College of Wooster men's tennis team stood firm, defeating Oberlin College, 5-4.

The win gave Wooster its first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season.

The match started with all three doubles matches going to tiebreakers after 7-7 stalemates. However, Wooster only took one flight when it was all said and done, as the No. 3 team of Alex Anikeeff and Anthony VanOyen blanked their opponents with a 7-0 tiebreaker.

The No. 1 team of Jay Dixit and Namit Misra and the No. 2 team of Shivam Dewan and Arnav Yadav each fell in 7-4 tiebreakers.

Fortunately, Wooster got the four points it needed in the top four singles flights, which all saw some combination of tiebreakers or three sets.

Dixit won in the No. 1 flight 7-6 (5), 0-6, 7-5, and VanOyen won the No. 2 flight 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

At No. 3, Yadav finished strong, winning 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (6), and Dewan won in straight sets 7-6 (3), 6-0 in the No. 4 flight.

Elsewhere, Misra fell 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6) in the No. 5 flight, and Bennett Dickerson lost 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 flight.

Wooster improves to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the NCAC. They will next host Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
