Dudziak’s No-Hitter Leads Pair of Solid Pitching Performance to Begin Season

Rachael Dudziak DANVILLE, Ky. – The College of Wooster softball team started its season exactly how it wanted to on Saturday with a 6-0 win over Centre College and an 8-0 five inning win over Asbury University.

The main story was pitching on Saturday.

In game one, first-year Lynnsey Delio got the call to start and delivered in a big way, pitching all seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out six.

In game two, junior Rachael Dudziak pitched the ninth no-hitter in Wooster history, pitching all five innings and striking out four. The last to achieve the feat was Katie Agatucci in 2019, who also did the same in five innings.

Both pitchers received plenty of help offensively as well.

In game one, Delio helped herself out at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

Junior captain Kaydee Clark made the biggest noise at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

After two scoreless innings, Wooster scored for two in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Clark broke the seal open with an RBI double that scored Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez. Griffin-Sanchez at the leadoff spot was walked three times in her four plate appearances.

Wooster took advantage of three Centre errors, scoring two runs and another run off a wild pitch. First-year Ella Wolff went 2-for-3 at the plate and made it 6-0 with an RBI single to right-center field.

Delio received the win, while Centre starter Andrea Searcy took the loss after lasting just 3.2 innings.

Game two against Asbury saw similar success as Wooster jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. Wooster scored three in each of the first two innings as Julia Jennings, Delio and Sarah Lodge all collected RBIs.

In the second, Jennings hit a two-run single, while Wolff brought in another run on a sharp ball hit to first.

Wooster tacked on two more in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Wolff and an RBI single from senior Stacey Harris.

In addition, coach Victoria Rumph reached milestone win 100 with the doubleheader sweep.

Wooster (2-0) will square off against Centre and Asbury again on Sunday.
