Tartans Best Scots in Doubleheader

Julia Jennings PITTSBURGH – The College of Wooster softball team took a pair of losses Tuesday to Carnegie Mellon University, 7-2 and 10-2 (5 inn.).

In game one, Carnegie Mellon pulled ahead with a four-run second inning, and the Wooster bats stayed relatively quiet in search of the comeback.

First-year Lynnsey Delio pitched 5.2 innings and gave up six earned runs in the loss. She also supplied Wooster with its only extra base hit, an RBI double that put Wooster ahead 1-0 in the second inning.

Wooster tallied only six hits in the game. Junior Anna Norby collected the other RBI on a single up the middle in the fourth. Julia Jennings scored on both accounts.

In game two, Delio again recorded the team's only extra base hit, another run producing double that put Wooster ahead 2-0 in the first inning.

Unfortunately, that was the only offense for the Scots as they could not back senior starting pitcher Addie Tagg. Tagg lasted just 3.1 innings, striking out two and giving up three earned runs.

A 2-2 game entering the fourth, the Scots struggled to get out of the inning as the Tartans (13-13) posted eight runs to move ahead 10-2.

Wooster collected eight hits. Junior Kaydee Clark went 2-2.

The Scots move to 12-8 on the year. The Scots host Ohio Weselyan University on Friday in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
