Scots Make It Exciting Against Muskies

Emma Hetkey NEW CONCORD – The College of Wooster softball team suffered a pair of losses to Muskingum University on Thursday, 6-1 and 8-7.

Anna Norby and Lynnsey Delio each hit solo home runs in game two to ignite Wooster's bats as the Scots fought back from an early 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the sixth at 7-7.

Sarah Lodge doubled to start the fifth. Emma Hetkey, who finished 3-for-4 in game two, drove her home on a single, while Julia Jennings later brought Hetkey home on a single up the middle.

Wooster then scored three in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7. Lodge came home on an error before Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez singled home Norby. The tying run came from Griffin-Sanchez who also scored on an error.

Wooster failed to bring the potential winning run home from third in the seventh. For Muskingum, a fielding error put its runner on and, later, a sacrifice fly would end the game.

Senior Addie Tagg took the unfortunate loss, allowing one hit and one unearned run in 2.2 innings of relief.

Game one was rather forgettable for the Scots as Muskingum slowly built a lead and sustained it with solid pitching. Starter Hannah Smith pitched four innings of one hit softball to secure her 14th win of the season.

Wooster starter Delio lasted just two innings, allowing three earned runs in the loss. Tagg finished the game, throwing four innings and striking out two.

Wooster's lone run came in the fifth thanks to an RBI double from Norby. Wooster collected just five hits and Norby's double was their only extra base knock.

The Scots drop to 16-14 overall, while Muskingum moves to 23-9. Wooster hosts Denison University in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
