Opponent Errors and Mother Nature on Wooster's Side in Sweep

Addie Tagg The College of Wooster softball team collected its second sweep of the season against a North Coast Athletic Conference opponent as they defeated Denison University, 6-2 and 7-4.

In game one, Wooster was ignited by a five-run second inning after capitalizing on three Denison errors. All five runs went unearned.

Lynnsey Delio scored on a throwing error from the backstop for the game's first run. Then, Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez hit a two-run blast to left with two outs to make it 3-0.

After Emma Hetkey reached on a throwing error, Cate Barkdoll made Denison pay with a two-run shot to right field.

Barkdoll also gave Wooster its sixth run in the fourth, scoring Hetkey with a double down the right field line.

Barkdoll finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Griiffin-Sanchez batted 2-for-4 with two RBI atop the lineup.

On the mound, Delio's no-hit bid was broken up in the fourth. After walking the first batter, Alessandra Groome collected Denison's first hit.

With runners on first and second, Delio came back to strike out the next two and got the final to ground out to short.

Delio ran into trouble in the fifth as Denison plated two, but senior Addie Tagg was able to get the final out of inning.

Delio recorded the win, her ninth of the year. Tagg ended up pitching 2.1 innings of no-hit softball with two walks and three strikeouts, including the game's final out.

Mother Nature came into play in game 2 as it delayed the start and also helped the Scots midway through.

Wooster trailed 3-1 in the fourth when the rain started to come down hard. With two on and two out, the Scots benefited from two wild pitches, which allowed two runs to come across.

After a short rain delay, Denison scored one in the fifth, but Wooster put up a four-spot in the sixth, taking advantage again of three Denison miscues.

It was all topped off with a two-run double from Delio - Wooster's only two RBI of the game.

Tagg picked up her fourth win in five innings of relief. She allowed just one earned run and struck out two.

She stepped in for starter Rachael Dudziak who cruised through the first two innings, not allowing a hit. She got into trouble to start the third as Tagg got out of a bases loaded, no out situation with just one run scoring.

Wooster moves to 18-14 overall and 6-4 in the NCAC. Denison drops to 13-13 and 5-3 in conference play.
