Scots Lose Out on Tourney Bid After Walk Off Loss

Kaydee Clark HIRAM – A walk off home run in game two diminished The College of Wooster softball team's chances to make the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as the Scots dropped two to Hiram College on Saturday, 6-1 and 4-3.

Instead, Hiram (21-13, 8-6 NCAC) will sneak into the tournament, while the Scots will be on the outside looking in. The Scots, now 19-17 overall, end its conference slate at 7-7, tied with Wittenberg University in fifth.

The final positions have yet to be determined but joining Hiram in the tournament will be DePauw University, Denison University and Ohio Wesleyan University.

In game two, Wooster trailed 2-0 early but fought back to tie the game in the fifth and take the lead in the sixth. The Scots scored on a throwing error and later a single to left field from Cate Barkdoll.

Kaydee Clark scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth for Wooster to pull ahead 3-2.

Rachael Dudziak pitched five strong innings of two run softball, striking out three. Addie Tagg pitched a clean sixth and recorded an out in the seventh before Darian Kanno sent a ball over the center field fence to score two for the win.

Kanno also silenced the Scots in game one, pitching a complete game and striking out five. Wooster collected just two hits and scored its lone run on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the third from Anna Norby.

Despite the losses, the season is not over for the Scots. They have two more opponents left on the schedule. The Ohio Northern University matchup scheduled for Monday has been postponed but the teams will look to reschedule later in the week. Stay tuned to woosterathletics.com for updates.
