Scots Face Buzzsaw of Third-Ranked Spartans to Conclude Season

Stacey Harris CLEVELAND – Third ranked Case Western Reserve University played to its ranking on Saturday, defeating The College of Wooster softball team in a doubleheader, 7-1 and 11-1 (5 inn.).

In game one, first-year Julia Jennings was the only Scot to make a dent into Case's pitching staff. Jennings drove in the only run and recorded the only two hits for the Scots.

In fact, by the end of the day, Jennings claimed Wooster's single-season record for batting average. She hit .450 on the year (59-for-131) breaking Demi Hart's 2012 record of .445 (49-of-110).

Her 59 hits were two short of the single season record.

Emma Hetkey led off the seventh by reaching on an error and advancing to second on a wild pitch. Jennings then drove her home on a single up the middle on an 0-2 count.

Case Western Reserve starter Lexi Miskey pitched four innings of one-hit softball to improve to 21-0 on the season. Jenna Jaklich pitched the final three innings for the save.

Wooster starter Lynnsey Delio saw just five batters. Two Spartans hit home runs as Delio only managed to record an out, and the Scots trailed 4-0 early.

Senior Addie Tagg pitched admirably for the rest of the game, allowing three earned runs and striking out four.

In game two, Case (34-2) kept on the Scots, forcing junior starter Rachael Dudziak out of the game after two innings.

The Spartans led 11-0 after four innings until Wooster finally tacked on a run in the fifth, and it was led by its senior class.

Kylie Schmitz singled to third base with one out. Classmate Stacey Harris pinch ran for her and would eventually come home on a throwing error.

Schmitz's hit was one of three for Wooster in the game. Hetkey and Kaydee Clark each collected one other hit.

Wooster finishes the year at 19-19.
