Both Scot Swim Teams Too Much for Hiram on Sunday

Alyse Marquinez The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team moved its perfect record to 9-0 in dual meets this season by trouncing host Hiram College 140-87 during a meet that started Sunday morning, while the Fighting Scots' men's squad improved to 5-3 with an equally dominant 141-70 win over the Terriers.

The meet had originally been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 8, but was postponed due to inclement weather that day.

Wooster was victorious in all but a handful of events in both the men's and the women's competition, highlighted by five individual double-winners. On the women's side, Caroline Hanson started the day by finishing first in the 800-meter freestyle (9:50.86) and later had the top time in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:20.69). Kate Hunt sprinted her way to victories in the 100- and 200-meter freestyles with respective times of 1:03.32 and 2:17.05, while Samira El-Adawy was the first to touch the wall in the 200-meter IM (2:31.56) as well as the 100-meter backstroke (1:10.49).

Diver Alyse Marquinez was the day's top scorer on both the one-meter (153.25) and the three-meter (153.45), while rounding out the Scots' women's victors were Melissa Haug in the 100-meter butterfly (1:11.11) and Priscilla Haug in the 400-meter freestyle (4:46.71).

In the men's meet, Peter Parisi placed first in the 200-meter IM (2:17.16) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.40), while Wooster also showed its balance with six additional individual winners. In the freestyles, Eric Babbitt took the 50 (25.04), Alex LaJoie the 200 (2:03.36), Logan LaBerge the 400 (4:27.39), and Ryan Radtke the 800 (9:21.39).

Brett Dawson and Tyler Hartley-Shepherd were the top performers in the 100-meter backstroke (1:03.37) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.87), respectively, and on the diving board, the Scots' Tim Gilliss won the one-meter (198.15) and Luke Knezevic the three-meter (220.05).

Wooster's next competition will be Jan. 23, when it hosts Wheeling Jesuit University on "Senior Day."
