Wooster Scores Convincing Wins Over Hiram

The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams each won rather decisively against Hiram College Tuesday evening, as the men secured a 136-99 victory, while the women nearly doubled their counterparts 143-74.

The women pushed their dual meet record to 7-1, and the men, who went winless during the fall portion of the season, have now won back-to-back meets in January to improve to 2-6.

Pacing the men were Peter Parisi, Brendan Horgan, and diver Luke Knezevic, who each won two events to account for six of the team's nine wins. Parisi did his damage in the breaststroke, logging a 1:00.16 in the 100 yard race and a 2:16.90 in the 200. Horgan picked up his pair of victories in the 100 (55.20) and 200 butterfly (2:05.69), respectively. In the diving well, Knezevic scored a 273.05 on the one-meter board, and 252.65 on the three-meter, which were both good for top honors.

Also notching individual wins on the men's squad were Alex LaJoie in the 1000 freestyle (10:57.84), Brett Dawson in the 100 backstroke (56.64), and Imre Namath in the 50 freestyle (22.40).

The women triumphed in 14 of 16 events, highlighted by Caroline Hanson and Mariah McGovern who both touched first in two races. Hanson's wins came in the 100 (1:11.10) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.09), while McGovern scored maximum points in both the 100 (56.53) and 1000 freestyle (11.12.80), with the latter being over 45 seconds quicker than the nearest Hiram swimmer.

Samira El-Adawy continued her winning ways with a 1:03.20 in the 100 backstroke, and Haug sister Melissa and Priscilla earned the top spot in 200 butterfly (2:14.28) and 200 backstroke (2:15.06), respectively. Also victorious for the women were Adriana Hoak in the 200 freestyle (2:03.65), Clare Walsh in the 50 freestyle (26.18), Kara Markham in the 500 freestyle (5:28.44), Kate Hunt in the 100 butterfly (1:00.13), and diver Alyse Marquinez in both the one-meter (180.70) and three-meter (183.45) events.

The Scots will be back in action Jan. 22 at Wheeling Jesuit University at 1 p.m.
