Behind an eighth-place and school-record performance in the 400 freestyle relay on the final day of the 2012 NCAA Div. III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, The College of Wooster jumped up six spots to finish in 18th-place at the four-day event at Indianapolis, Ind.

It marked Wooster's best finish since taking seventh nationally in 2004.

The Fighting Scots combined for four swims in the consolation finals over the first three days, but made a bigger splash on Saturday as the 800 freestyle team consisting of Kate Hunt, Morgan Hughes, Clare Walsh, and Melissa Haug advanced to a championship heat (top-eight). They did so via the eighth-fastest time during the prelims, clocking in at 3:28.89, nearly two seconds faster than their previous school record (3:30.65) set at the conference meet a month ago.

In the championship, Hunt, Hughes, Walsh, and Haug produced a 3:30.03 time, good for eighth-place. The top-eight showing resulted in first-team All-American honors, a career first for all four members of the quartet.
