The College of Wooster's swimming and diving team earned a split against archrival Wittenberg University in its first traditional dual-meet of the season, as the Fighting Scot men outswam its counterpart 159-137, while the women came up short 187-104 on Saturday afternoon at the HPER Center Natatorium in Springfield, Ohio.

It was a significant win for the men's team, as it marked their first win over Wittenberg since the 2007 season. Brian Maddock was one of the stars of the squad, as he won three events, with two victories coming individually, and his other as a member of a relay team.

Maddock swept both backstroke events, as he won the 100- (54.83) and 200-yard (2:00.21) competitions, and he also swam the first leg of the winning 200 medley relay with teammates Frayne Poeting, James Love, and Aaron Brown (1:40.43).

Poeting and Brown were also triple-winners, as they both helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a victory in 1:31.62, along with Conner Gelwicks and Love, and individually, Poeting touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.49), as did Brown in the 50 freestyle in 23.01.

Another earning multiple first-place points for the Scots was Zackary Pool, who hit first in both the 100 (54.49) and 200 butterfly (2:03.05).

On the women's side, it was newcomer Courtney McGovern who highlighted the results, as she showed her versatility by winning the 100 butterfly in 1:02.31 as well as the 200 IM in 2:17.16.

Also winning events were Kara Markham in the marathon-like 1000 freestyle (11:22.57) and Sarah Litt in the 200 butterfly (2:16.59).

The Scots will compete in the Greater Cleveland Tournament next weekend, which takes place at Oberlin, Ohio.
