Swimming Splashes Past Malone 

Morris and Sullivan CANTON - The College of Wooster swimming and diving team swept a dual meet against NCAA Division II Malone University, hosted at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.

The Fighting Scots won every individual swimming event of the dual meet, leading the men to their first victory of the season 167-33 while the women secured their 15th consecutive win by a score of 175-27. 

In their first relay action of the season, the team of sophomore Hallie Findlan, junior Maddie Becker, sophomore Ollie Bream and first-year Gracie Duchon got the afternoon started with a victory in the 400-medley relay in 4:13.83.

Not to be outdone, the 200-freestyle relay team of Findlan, Duchon, junior Emma Connors and Becker won in 1:44.83, which already surpassed the Scots' top time in the event from last season. 

Bream was the only multi-event winner on the women's side, claiming the 200 free in 2:01.60 and the 200 butterfly in 2:15.57. Also recording wins were Becker in the 50 free (25.57 seconds), Connors in the 500 free (season-best 5:33.91), senior Kay Wetmore in the 1,000 frees (11:26.27), Duchon in the 200 IM (2:22.09), Findlan in the 100 free (season-best 55.24 seconds), first-year Coco Malnar in the 200 backstroke (2:20.44) and sophomore Izzy Bellefleur in the 200 breaststroke (season-best 2:43.28). 

For the men, the 400-medley relay of sophomore Max Likins, senior Doak Schultz, junior Josh Pearson and sophomore Ryan Gross touched the wall in a winning time of 3:40.76. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gross, first-year Boston Sullivan, sophomore Zach Fickes and Schultz closed out the afternoon with a win in 1:29.81. 

Sullivan continued a hot start to his collegiate career, winning two more events for Wooster. He turned in a time of 2:04.48 to win the 200 IM and then followed it up in the 100 frees with a time of 49.69 seconds. Pearson joined Sullivan as the only other multi-event winner, claiming the 200 free in 1:48.97 and the 200 butterfly in 1:58.69. 

Other event winners included Schultz in the 50 frees (22.10 seconds), sophomore Isaac Shaker in the 1,000 free (10:48.11), Likins in the 200 backstroke (2:05.19), Gross in the 500 free (5:06.35) and senior Noah Golovan in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.94).

Wooster returns to action on Saturday when they will host Bluffton University and NCAA Division II Notre Dame College for a 1 p.m. meet at Timken Natatorium.
