Scots Swarm Yellow Jackets

Lacey Mindock, Wooster swimming BEREA, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's swimming and diving team handed Baldwin Wallace University its first dual meet loss of the season, as the Fighting Scots stung the Yellow Jackets 195-98 on Saturday at BW Natatorium. Wooster's women's swimming and diving team convincingly downed Baldwin Wallace 210-61 to run its dual meet winning streak to 19.

Twenty-eight first-place finishes were tallied by the Scots on Saturday afternoon, and sophomore Ollie Bream accounted for four of them, with three being individual efforts. The butterfly specialist won the 100- (1:01.69) and 200-yard butterfly (2:15.61), then returned to the water right after the 100-yard race to claim the top spot in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.57. Bream swam the butterfly leg on the meet-opening 200 medley relay, with sophomore Hallie Findlan, junior Maddie Becker, and first-year Gracie Duchon helping steer the quartet to the winning time of 1:55.38.

Findlan was a quadruple-winner as well, taking the title of fastest swimmer on the day, as made official by the 24.65 winning time in the 50 freestyle. The sophomore scooped up first-place in the 100 freestyle at 54.36 and led off the meet-capping 200 freestyle relay, where first-years Lacey Mindock, Keara Wiley, and Duchon followed en route to a time of 1:46.38.

Becker swept the breaststroke events, posting times of 1:09.47 and 2:29.98 in the 100- and 200-yard races, respectively. Sophomore transfer JP Timken was a double-winner in her Wooster debut, claiming the 500 freestyle at 5:25.38 and the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:04.13. Of note, Wooster had the top three finishers in the 500 freestyle, as junior Emma Connors (5:30.75) and Mindock (5:30.76) supported Timken's winning effort.

Other women's winners included Connors in the 200 freestyle (2:05.48), first-year Emma Humbert in the 200 backstroke (2:17.57), senior Min Kim in the 100 backstroke (1:04.54), and sophomore Cady Eakins in one-meter diving (117.90 points).

Wooster's top men's performer was senior Doak Schultz, who was a relay staple on the day. He swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay, which included sophomore Max Likins, senior Noah Golovan, and first-year Callum Glover. That quartet led with a time of 1:39.80. At the end, Wooster went 1:28.93 to win the 200 freestyle relay, which was anchored by Schultz. Glover, sophomore Ryan Gross, and sophomore Zach Fickes proved to be the winning combination prior to Schultz's anchor leg. Individually, Schultz scored wins in the 50 freestyle (21.98) and 100 butterfly (52.24) to finish as a quadruple-winner.

Sophomore Tucke Andrewjeski and junior Josh Pearson won two individual events apiece. Andrewjeski stopped the watch first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:33.83) and the sophomore went on to take the 200 breaststroke at 2:20.10. Andrewjeski was followed in the 200 breaststroke by Golovan's 2:23.09 and sophomore Ari Inwood's 2:27.38, as Wooster occupied the top three spots in the event. Pearson had the top times of 1:56.51 and 2:00.66 in the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley, respectively.

Other Wooster winners included Glover in the 100 freestyle (48.65), Golovan in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.43), Gross in the 200 freestyle (1:48.99), Likins in the 100 backstroke (56.51), and sophomore Isaac Shaker in the 500 freestyle (5:00.33).

Next, Wooster travels to Ohio Wesleyan University for a 1 p.m. dual meet on Saturday, January 21.
