In their lone home meet of the season, The College of Wooster
track & field teams both turned in runner-up performances, as
the women scored 112 points and the men 91 at the Wooster
Invitational, held Saturday at a sunny but cold Carl Munson
Track.
Walsh University was the team champion in the 10-team women’s
field with 197 points, while the Fighting Scots edged third-place
Notre Dame College (105). Ashland University was fourth (82) and no
other squad reached the 50-point mark.
The men’s competition consisted of nine teams, with Notre
Dame’s 122 points outdistancing Wooster for the title. The
Scots were three tallies better than Edinboro University (88) and
Walsh (80) also was not far behind.
Headlining Wooster’s individual results was Ali Drushal, who
won two events and placed second in another. She started the day by
topping a 22-member field in the javelin with a throw of 117 feet,
10 inches and then raced her way to another title in the 400-meter
hurdles, hitting the line in 1:11.79. The versatile Drushal cleared
9 feet, 6.25 inches in the pole vault, good for second, and also
was part of a relay.
The Scot women had two other winners in Suzanne Capehart and Kayla
Miller. Capehart bested a group of 24 peers in the 1500 meters,
finishing with a time of 5:02.44, in addition to her fourth-place
run in the 800 (2:29.29). Miller was the day’s top triple
jumper, reaching a mark of 34 feet, 1.5 inches, to go with third-
and seventh-place efforts in the long jump (15 feet, 2.25 inches)
and high jump (4 feet, 11.5 inches), respectively.
Other top-three showings were Katie Dale’s runner-up discus
throw (109 feet, 8 inches) and KateLynn Riley’s third-place
finishes in both the 100 hurdles (16.98) and javelin (93 feet, 6
inches).
Wooster’s men’s team picked up the majority of its
points in the field events, highlighted by Eric Dyer in the triple
jump. He hit a mark of 43 feet, 3.25 inches and not far back was
teammate Tristan Jordan in third (41 feet, 4.25 inches), while
Ramses Clements and Averell Gatton also produced scoring as they
were fifth (39 feet, 3 inches) and seventh (38 feet, 8.25 inches),
respectively.
Another strong event was the javelin, in which Wooster’s
Tobias Bokum-Fauth, Steve Zumbrun, and Seth Stuck took second (140
feet, 5 inches), third (139 feet, 4 inches), and fourth (135 feet,
4 inches) in that order. Zumbrun had another third-place showing in
the shot put (43 feet, 7.75 inches), as did Gatton in the long jump
(19 feet, 3.25 inches).
On the track, Mark DeWine led the Scots via a third-place finish in
the 5000 meters (16:00.91).
Wooster will return to action next Saturday at the Malone
Invitational.
