Scots Open Indoor Season with Wooster Invitational 

Ainsley Wiesner The College of Wooster indoor track and field teams opened the year with the Wooster Invitational on Saturday.

The men finished second of four teams, scoring 146 points behind NAIA's Point Park University, who finished with 225 points. The women finished third with 101 points, four shy of second place Edinboro University and 29 points behind winner Point Park.

A pair of school records went down on Saturday, one each from both squads. 

First-year Lorenzo Freeman quickly put himself in the record books, after taking first and breaking the 60 hurdles record at 8.63 seconds. He bettered the previous set time in 2020 by Korey Simmons (8.79).

Then for the women, Ainsley Wiesner broke the school indoor record in the weight throw at 48 feet, 6.75 inches, which was set last year by Natalie Tanner at 45 feet, 0.25 inches. Tanner finished fifth in the event on Saturday at 42 feet, 4 inches.

Continuing with the women, senior Morgan Kromer placed first in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 10 inches in her first attempt.

Junior Drew Patterson and senior Claudia Partridge finished one, two in the high jump. Patterson cleared 5 feet, 3.75 inches, while Partridge finished at 5 feet, 2.5 inches.

Patterson also finished second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.36 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters in 28.37 seconds.

The 4x200 relay team of Patterson, Izzy CozzieIgna Mendez and Athena Tharenos placed second in 1:52.40. The 4x400 team of Tharenos, Cozzie, Haley Bloom and Mendez followed suit with a time of 4:27.35.

Mendez and Tharenos also finished third and fourth in the 400 meters.

Isabelle Dwyer was third in the mile (6:13.78).

The women also had two in the top five of the 60-meter hurdles with Clare Mackin (10.08 seconds) leading the pack and Mary Sirois (10.28) finishing fifth.

Elise Greenwald was fifth in the 3000 meters (13:13.92).

For the men, Will McMichael won the 800-meter race by .05 seconds as his time of 2:00 was enough to get the job done.

Junior Dylan Garretson sat atop an all-Wooster field in the pole vault with a clearing height of 15 feet. Davis Patterson followed at 13 feet, 9.25 inches.

Senior Luke Henke finished above the rest in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches.

In the 3000 meters, Will Callender won decisively with a time of 9:12.88. First-year Joe Ahmann finished fourth (9:51.20).

Sophomore Echo Kidd was third in the long jump (20 fee, 0.25 inches) and high jump (6 feet, 0.5 inches). 

Neil Storey was the best Wooster weight thrower with a fifth-place finish (38 feet, 11.5 inches), while Conor Greene also finished fifth (38 feet, 6.25 inches) in the shot put.

Vell Robinson scored fifth in the triple jump (41 feet, 7.75 inches).

The 4x400 team wrapped up the meet in second with a time off 3:33.01, trailing the first-place time of 3:32.46. That team consisted of Joe ShiltsCam Ray, Patterson and Nick Scherson.

The Scots return to action Saturday when they host the Fighting Scots Invitational.
