Pair of Records Go Down at Denison Invite

Cam Ray The College of Wooster track and field teams competed at Denison University on Saturday in the Bob Shannon Invitational where the men placed second of seven teams and the women fourth of eight.

The men also set a pair of new school records.

Junior Dylan Garretson once again upped his own school record, reaching 16 feet to win the pole vault.

In addition, the 4x400 relay team took first place and set a new school record in the process. Joe ShiltsNick SchersonCam Ray and Will McMichael ran a time of 3:27.53. They barely beat the 2020 time of 3:27.98.

McMichael also won the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.90. Drew Robertson came in fourth at 2:04.02.

Ben Nichols won the one mile with a time of 4:39.18, and Will Callender won the 3,000 meters at 8:55.54.

The 4x200 relay team of Shilts, Scherson, Liam Regan and Khaleel Manderson came third at 1:34.90.

Luke Henke was second in the high jump at 6 feet, 2.75 inches.

Echo Kidd finished third in the long jump (20 feet, 6.5 inches) and the high jump (6 feet, .75 inches. Davis Patterson came in third with a height of 13 feet, 11.25 inches.

The women had a pair of individual winners. Athena Tharenos crossed first in the one mile in 5:20.59, while first-year Evie Sanford reached a new personal best and won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, .5 inches.

There was also a slew of second place finishes.

Drew Patterson and Claudia Partridge finished second in the high jump, each reaching heights of five feet, one inch. Patterson was also third in the triple jump in 34 feet, two inches.

Senior Morgan Kromer was second in the pole vault at 10 feet, 11.75 inches, with Sarah Hiestand following in third at eight feet.

Ainsley Wiesner was second in the weight throw at 48 feet, 2.75 inches, while Natalie Tanner finished fourth at 45 feet, 9.25 inches.

Next up are the All-Ohio Championships at Wittenberg University on Saturday.
