Scots Win 20 Events at Kenyon Classic

Khaleel Manderson, Wooster track GAMBIER, Ohio – Twenty first-place finishes were tallied by The College of Wooster track & field team, which won over two thirds of the events contested at Friday evening's non-scoring Kenyon College Classic.

The meet, which served as a tune-up for next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, saw junior Drew Patterson claim four blue ribbons. Patterson doubled up in the jumps, taking top honors in the high jump and triple jump at 5 feet, 1.25 inches and 33 feet, 4 inches, respectively. The junior took top billing as the fastest athlete of the meet as the 60 meters winner, with her time coming in at 8.23. Patterson was part of Wooster's 4x200 relay that stopped the clock at 1:54.41. Sophomore Maia Doescher, first-year Izzy Cozzie, and sophomore Igna Mendez joined Patterson on the winning relay.

Wooster won all six women's field events. Senior Morgan Kromer's 10 feet was the winning mark in the pole vault, as was Doescher's 14 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump. Junior Ainsley Wiesner extended her school record in the weight throw to 50 feet, 4.5 inches, while first-year Evie Sanford led a one-three-four Wooster finish in the shot put with a top mark of 37 feet, 10 inches.

Elsewhere, sophomore Clare Mackin's 8.88 was the top time in the 55-meter hurdles and junior Athena Tharenos led the pack in the 3,000 meters at 10:35.42.

Wooster's men boasted three double winners on the night. Sophomore Echo Kidd's first-place efforts came in the jumps with top marks of 41 feet, 1.75 inches and 6 feet, 4.75 inches in the triple and high jump, respectively. First-year Khaleel Manderson and senior Nick Scherson were the bookend legs of Wooster's winning 4x200 relay, which came in at 1:33.56. Scherson's 50.79 won the 400 meters, while Manderson led Wooster's 200 meters crew with a 23.69 in an event where Scots occupied the top seven places. Senior Joe Shilts and sophomore Liam Regan joined Manderson and Scherson on the winning 4x200 relay.

Wooster won both throws, with senior Conor Greene's 42 feet, 11 inches claiming the weight throw crown. First-year Robert Mays III measured out to 44 feet, 0.5 inch in his best shot put to earn the top prize. Sophomore Will Callender's 4:27.76 won the mile, first-year Lorenzo Freeman's 8.67 netted the 60-meter hurdles win, and the quartet of sophomore Drew Robertson, sophomore Cam Ray, first-year Jake George, and sophomore Ben Nichols crossed first in the 4x400 relay at 3:48.12.
