Partridge Wins NCAC Pentathlon, Patterson Runner-Up In Heptathlon

Claudia Partridge, Wooster track & field GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster's recent dominance in the North Coast Athletic Conference pentathlon continued on Sunday at Denison University, with the Fighting Scots claiming the individual champion for the third time in the last six times it has been contested. Junior Davis Patterson joined NCAC champion Claudia Partridge on the all-conference podium as the heptathlon runner-up.

Partridge rode her strength – the high jump – to the title. The senior cleared 5 feet, 6 inches, a mark just a half inch off her school record set at last year's NCAC Championships, and that vaulted Partridge up to a tie for seventh nationally in the event this season. Partridge was the only competitor on Sunday to exceed five feet in the event. Her time of 10.12 was a top-three clip in the field in the 60-meter hurdles. Partridge's 2,779 points ranked 60 ahead of Oberlin College's Hayden Hill.

Patterson's school record skyrocketed by 458 points. His runner-up score of 4,641 points was just 28 back of Denison's Jacob Brown. Patterson dominated the pole vault at 14 feet, 6.75 inches and gave a valiant effort trying to chase Brown down by winning the 1,000 meters at 2:53.78. The five-time all-conference honoree was in the top three in the field in the shot put (38 feet, 4 inches) and high jump (5 feet, 10.75 inches).

Sophomore Vell Robinson also competed for the Scots and placed ninth in the heptathlon with 3,359 points.

Next, Wooster heads to DePauw University for the NCAC Championships, which take place February 24-25.
