Scots Claim All-NCAC in Eight Events in Final Day of NCAC Championships

Keri and Will Callender GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster track and field teams added All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in eight events as the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up.

When it was all said and done, the men tied for third and the women finished fifth. The men scored 99 points and tied with host DePauw University. Wabash College scored 157 points to claim first.

The Wooster women scored 85 points, which was 3.5 points behind Oberlin College in fourth. Wittenberg University scored 190 points to top the women's list.

In the final awards, Will Callender was awarded the Men's Indoor Distance Athlete of the Year.

Callender impressed with a first place showing in the 3,000 meters with a new school record time of 8:40.60. He broke a record that was set back in 2016 by Jacob Denbeaux with a time of 8:46.06.

His winning added on to Friday's performance where he finished third in the 5,000 meters (15:08.39) as he claimed a pair of All-NCAC honors this weekend.

Another record breaker Saturday was an improvement upon his own as Dylan Garretson reached 16 feet, 1.25 inches to win the pole vault. He is now tied for 13th in the nation among Division III athletes.

Sticking with the pole vault, Davis Patterson followed right behind for All-NCAC honors with a second place vault of 14 feet, 5.5 inches.

Patterson totaled three All-NCAC honors. In addition to his second-place finish in the heptathlon last weekend, Patterson joined Joe ShiltsNick Scherson and Cam Ray for a second place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:27.34).

Also earning All-NCAC honors for the men was Luke Henke, who placed second in the high jump. He reached the same height as first place at 6 feet, 6 inches but cleared it in his second attempt, one behind from first.

First-year Lorenzo Freeman finished second in the 60 hurdles and improved upon his school record with a time of 8.46 seconds.

Sophomore Echo Kidd was third to earn All-NCAC honors in the triple jump, reaching a season best 43 feet, 10 inches.

Scherson placed fourth in the 400 (50.78), just missing out on All-NCAC honors.

Drew Robertson scored the 1 mile with a sixth place finish (4:30.28). He was also sixth in the 800 (2:00.48). Khaleel Manderson placed seventh in the 60 dash (7.14).

The men's 4x200 relay team of Manderson, Shilts, Harvey Briscoe and Scherson also just missed out on All-NCAC honors, running a 1:33.60 for fourth place. The women's team endured the same fate as Patterson, Maia DoescherEmily Munson and Izzy Cozzie finished fourth at 1:50.62.

Sticking with the women, first-year Evie Sanford won the shot put, throwing a personal best 40 feet, two inches. It was Wooster's first winner at the championships in the women's shot put.

Claudia Partridge added to her All-NCAC mantle with a second place finish in the high jump at 5 feet, 4.25 inches. Drew Patterson followed in third at 5 feet, 3 inches to also earn All-NCAC honors.

Patterson also scored in the triple jump with a sixth place finish at 33 feet, 8 inches and another sixth place finish in the 60 dash (8.11)

Junior Athena Tharenos ran a 10:37.44 in the 3,000 meters for fifth.

In the 60 hurdles, Mary Sirois (9.50) and Clare Mackin (9.55) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The 4x400 relay team of Haley Bloom, Munson, Cozzie and Igna Mendez placed sixth (4:16.68).

The indoor season is not quite over for the Scots as they travel to Ohio Northern University next for the Polar Bear Final Qualifier next weekend.
