Garretson, Wiesner Improve School Records at Polar Bear Qualifier

Ainsley Wiesner A select number of student-athletes from The College of Wooster track and field teams took part in the Polar Bear Qualifier at Ohio Northern University on Saturday.

With no team scoring, the goal is to improve times and marks in hopes to crack the top 20 for advancement into the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend.

Senior Claudia Partridge (high jump) and junior Dylan Garretson (pole vault) each entered with marks in the top 20 nationally. Unfortunately, no one else was able to improve enough to join the duo.

Garretson improved his pole vault mark to 16 feet, 2.5 inches, which moved him to 13th in Division III at the time of this posting.

The only other Scot to improve upon their mark was junior Ainsley Wiesner.

In the weight throw, Wiesner fouled in her first attempt but recovered and ended with the second-best throw at 51 feet, three inches. She further improved her school record throw, previously set at 50 feet, 9.25 inches.

That throw put her in the top 70 of all Division III throwers.

For Partridge, she reached five feet, 2.5 inches for fourth in the high jump, off from her best height of 5 feet, six inches this year. She currently sits tied with six others for ninth place in all of Division III.

Also in the high jump, Drew Patterson reached five feet, .5 inches. Natalie Tanner threw for 44 feet, .5 inches in the weight throw.

In the shot put, Evie Sanford threw for 38 feet, two inches.

Morgan Kromer failed to improve upon her school record which she set last week, and Luke Henke finished at six feet, 2.75 inches in the high jump to tie for third in the event.

The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships run March 10-11 in Birmingham, Ala. Official Qualifiers will be announced Sunday night.
