Two Track & Field Records Fall at Unscored Bob Kahn Invitational

Evie Sanford OBERLIN - Two College of Wooster outdoor track and field records were broken during the two-day unscored Bob Kahn Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College.

On Friday, junior Ainsley Wiesner shattered her own hammer throw record from just two weeks ago with a mark of 157 feet, 1 inch. That toss broke the previous school-record mark by over 20 feet and helped Wiesner to finish second overall.

The following day, first-year Evie Sanford topped the record book herself with a career-and program-best mark of 132 feet, 2 inches in the discus throw, moving all the way up from seventh all-time. Sanford was the runner-up in the event at the meet.

A number of Scots won individual field events on the second day of action. Junior Davis Patterson won the pole vault and moved up to fifth all-time by clearing a height of 15 feet, 1 inch.

Sophomore Echo Kidd won the triple jump and landed eighth all-time with a mark of 44 feet, 2.5 inches, which was just half an inch better than the runner up.

Senior Luke Henke and junior Drew Patterson won their respective high jump events with season-best marks as Henke cleared 6 feet, 2.75 inches and Patterson hit a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches.

One other Scot entered the top-10 list when senior Conor Greene tossed 144 feet, 9 inches in the hammer throw, placing seventh overall and ranking third in program history.

In her first action of the track season, senior Isabelle Hoover was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:24.56. Patterson, senior Claudia Partridge and sophomore Clare Mackin all achieved individual runner-up results as well.

Patterson took second in the 100-meter dash in 13.01 seconds. Partridge cleared a height of 5 feet, 1 inch to finish as the runner-up to Patterson in the high jump. Mackin placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.16 seconds, just ahead of junior Mary Sirois who placed third in 16.47 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Maia Doescher, first-year Izzy Cozzie, sophomore Daysia Hargrave and Patterson also finished second in 51.18 seconds.

The Scots had a strong showing in the high jump event as first-year Essaie Mezmur and Kidd went fourth and fifth, respectively, with heights of 5 feet, 10.75 inches and 5 feet, 8.75 inches. Sophomore Cam Ray turned in a career-best time of 52.37 seconds to finish fourth 400-meter dash.

Wooster will compete next in a dual meet with Oberlin College on Saturday, April 8, at Oberlin.
