Track and Field Teams Put in the Work

Echo Kidd The College of Wooster track and field team competed in the Oberlin College Dual on Saturday, while two individuals went elsewhere to compete in the pole vault.

Juniors Dylan Garretson and Davis Patterson were in action at the Northeast Ohio Open at the University of Akron, competing against Division I and Division II competitors in the pole vault.

Garretson reached 15 feet, 11 inches for fifth, while Patterson finished eighth at 13 feet, 11.25 inches.

The rest of the team went to Oberlin for its non-scoring dual meet with the Yeos and Lourdes University.

Continuing with the men's team, senior Will McMichael won the 400 dash in 48.51 seconds, followed closely by Nick Scherson in 49.91 seconds. McMichael's time is an early top-20 placing in Division III.

Sophomore Echo Kidd won the high jump in six feet. Luke Henke reached the same length for second place. Kidd was also first in the long jump at 21 feet, 8.75 inches.

Will Callender won the 5000 run in 15:35.62, and Vell Robinson won the triple jump in 40 feet, 11.5 inches.

Joe Shilts was first in the 400 hurdles in the 58.04 seconds. Shilts also joined Khaleel Manderson, Scherson and Lorenzo Freeman on the 4x100 team who placed second at 44.09 seconds.

Wooster's 4x400 team also placed second (3:25.97) behind the team of Shilts, Scherson, Cam Ray and McMichael.

Freeman was also second in the 110 hurdles in 16.35 seconds.

Manderson was third in the 100 dash at 11.50 seconds and second in the 200 dash (23.10).

Sophomore Drew Robertson was second in the 1500 meter run in 4:03.66 as well as the 800 run in 2:00.57.

In the pole vault, Hayden Jacoby reached the highest at 11 feet, 5.75 inches.

Conor Greene was second in the hammer throw at 151 feet, 5 inches and second in the discus at 125 feet. 

Sophomore Robert Mays III placed second in the shot put at 37 feet, 7.25 inches.

For the women, Athena Tharenos made quick work of the three-person field to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:16.14. It is a current top 25 time in all of Division III.

Claudia Partridge won the high jump in 5 feet, 2.5 inches, which is a top 50 mark.

Jessie Breth won the 5000 in 20:15.99.

Drew Patterson won the 100 meters in 13.21 seconds, winning by .01 seconds over Lindsey Pumford from Lourdes. She was also second in the long jump at 14 feet, 4.5 inches.

Junior Ainsley Wiesner won the javelin in 94 feet, nine inches. Evie Sanford was second in the discus at 123 feet, five inches and finished first in the shot put at 37 feet, 6.75 inches.

Mary Sirois was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.07 seconds. Clare Mackin followed in third at 16.63 seconds.

Maia Doescher came second in the 200 meters at 26.93 seconds. Hargrave was second in the 400 hurdles at 1:11.02.

In the relays, the 4x100 team of Doescher, Patterson, Izzy Cozzie and Daysia Hargrave won in 50.50 seconds. The 4x400 team of Haley Bloom, Tharenos, Igna Mendez and Cozzie later placed second in 4:18.84.

The Scots return to action April 12 at the Denison University Dual Meet.
