Tharenos Races to Sixth NCAC Athlete of the Week Award

Athena Tharenos, Wooster Track & Field The College of Wooster's Athena Tharenos raced to her sixth career North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award after leaving the field behind in Saturday's 3,000-meter steeplechase at Oberlin College.

Tharenos' 11:16.14 was just over six seconds off her collegiate-best time, and it was tops in Saturday's field by over four minutes. Tharenos is currently 23rd nationally in the steeplechase and has the second-best time in the NCAC.

Tharenos' award is the junior's second of this outdoor season. The first came on March 20, when the Fighting Scots' junior women swept all three awards handed out by the conference.

Wooster is back in action with a dual meet at Denison University on Wednesday.
