Eleven All-Ohio Honors For Men’s And Women’s Track And Field Teams at All-Ohio Championships

Morgan Kromer The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams turned in sixth-place finishes at the 2023 All-Ohio Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Wooster's women totaled five All-Ohio performances and three event titles to finish with 73.5 points. Case Western Reserve won the team championship with 11 points, edging second-place Ohio Wesleyan (109). Denison (104.5), Ohio Northern (97.5), and Oberlin (76) rounded out the top five.

The Fighting Scot men totaled 57 points while logging six All-Ohio performances and two event titles. Denison University finished first with 153.5 points. Case Western Reserve (132), Otterbein (95.5), Oberlin (63), and Ohio Northern (61.5) closed out the top five in the team standings.

On the men's side, Dylan Garretson finished in first place in the pole vault and set a new school record by clearing 16'2.75". His previous best was 16'1.25" set in 2022. The height is fourth this spring within Division III.

Following right behind Garretson was Davis Patterson who placed second with a height of 15'3". That was a new personal best for Patterson while also marking the fourth-best height in program history.

In the high jump, Luke Henke tied for first place by clearing 6'4". That was a new PR for Henke and the mark ties for eighth all-time at Wooster.

Championships on the women's side were turned in by Drew Patterson in the high jump (5'4.25"), Athena Tharenos in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:08.22), and Isabelle Hoover in the 5,000 meter run (18:33.74).

Tharenos outdistanced the second-place finisher by over one full minute. Her time was a new personal best and it ranks as the second-best showing in Wooster track & field history. Tharenos' previous best performance was 11:10.02 set last season.

In the high jump, Patterson matched her PR set in 2022. That height ranks fifth all-time at Wooster. Following Patterson in the high jump was Claudia Partridge in fourth place with a height of 5'2.25". 

Senior Morgan Kromer picked up an All-Ohio certificate by tying for third place in the pole vault. Kromer posted a new PR and the second-best performance in school history by clearing 11'3". Her previous personal best was 10'11.75" set in 2019.

The women's All-Ohio showings were rounded out in the 4x400 relay as Haley BloomIzzy Cozzie, Tharenos, and Igna Mendez took third with a time of 4:10.79.

The 4x100 relay of Maia Doescher, Cozzie, Patterson and Clare Mackin finished just outside of All-Ohio accolades with a fourth-place showing and a time of 50.22.

Mackin returned to place fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.65) while Patterson locked up sixth place in the 100 meter dash with a PR of 12.69. Cozzie took seventh in the 200 meter dash in 26.61.

In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Mackin placed fourth in 15.65 while Bloom (1:03.50) and Partridge (1:03.80) placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 400 meter run.

In women's field events, Patterson locked up fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 35'1.25". Ainsley Wiesner placed seventh in the hammer throw (148'9"), and eighth in the shot put (35'11.25").

For the men, Will Callender placed second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:26.91. Echo Kidd and Drew Robertson rounded out the All-Ohio performances by placing third in the long jump and 1,500 meter run, respectively. Kidd posted a jump of 22'3.5" and Robertson crossed the finish line in 3:57.73.

Other point scorers for the Wooster men were Nick Scherson who finished fifth in the 400 meters in 50.26, and Essaie Mezmur who locked up seventh place in the high jump, clearing 5'10". 

In the 4x400 relay, Joe Shilts, Scherson, Patterson, and Will McMichael placed fifth with a time of 3:28.46.

The Wooster track and field teams returns to action on April 22 when they travel to Gambier for the Kenyon Invitational.
