Scots Set Number of Personal Bests at Denison Invite

Jake George GRANVILLE – Weather delayed the start of the Denison Invitational on Friday but The College of Wooster track and field teams managed to get through the non-scoring meet with plenty of satisfying performances.

Focusing on the men first, the 4x400 team defeated two teams from Ohio Wesleyan University and another from Denison to claim first. The team of Cam RayJake GeorgeZane DeMercurio and Nick Scherson ran a time of 3:29.45.

Three of the four also had top five finishes elsewhere.

In the 400 hurdles, George placed third with a time of 59.26 seconds. Scherson ran to fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:00.09, and Ray finished fifth in the 400 dash (51.82).

In field events, Davis Patterson claimed first in the pole vault, reaching 15 feet, 9.25 inches and catapulting himself to second behind Dylan Garretson in the program record book.

Conor Greene reached second place in the hammer throw at 158 feet. That was a personal best for Greene, who reached 140 feet, five inches in 2022, and ties him for second in the program record book.

Robert Mays III threw for 123 feet, four inches for eighth place.

In the discusMays (134-9) and Greene (132-10) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. For Mays it was a personal best.

On the women's side, in the 100 hurdles, Daysia Hargrave (16.37) and Clare Mackin (16.62) finished in second and third, respectively. Hargrave later finished third in the 400 meters (1:11.03), while Emily Munson came in fifth (1:16.75).

Haley Bloom took second (1:02.10) and Igna Mendez fourth (1:04.06) in the 400 dash.

In the 100 dash, Drew Patterson (13.07) and Izzy Cozzie (13.18) finished together in fourth and fifth, respectively. Patterson was also second in the high jump at five feet, three inches, reaching the same height as first but doing it in more attempts.

Morgan Kromer found herself in a similar situation but tied for first in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 1.75 inches. 

Also of note, Ainsley Wiesner placed second in the javelin (95-8).

Select Scots will take part in the North Coast Athletic Conference Decathlon and Heptathlon meet this weekend at Oberlin College before taking part in the NCAC Championships May 5-6.
