McMichael, Hargrave and Men’s 4x400 Claim NCAC Titles

Will McMichaelPhoto Courtesy of NCAC DELAWARE – The College of Wooster track and field teams kept its momentum from Friday to conclude the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. 

After six All-NCAC honors on Friday, Wooster returned Saturday to claim even more. More so, Daysia Hargrave claimed the title in the 100 hurdles, while Will McMichael took the 400 and teamed with Joe ShiltsCam Ray and Nick Scherson to take the 4x400.

Overall, the women's team finished fifth of seven teams with 87 points. Wittenberg University won the meet with 216 points.

The men placed sixth of eight teams with 97.5 points as Denison University won with 162 points.

McMichael's performances earned him the Men's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year award.

McMichael repeated as the 400 champion, earning the outdoor title for the third time in his career. He also crushed his own school record, coming in at 47.62 as no other competitor finished in under 48 seconds.

Nick Scherson finished in fourth, just shy of All-NCAC honors, with at time of 48.54 seconds. He also finished eighth in the 200 meters (22.61).

McMichael also was partly responsible for the other men's record breaker in the 4x400. The team of McMichael, Shilts, Ray and Scherson ran for a first-place time of 3:17.43, holding off Wittenberg by .14 seconds.

McMichael, Shilts and Scherson combined to best their previous record in the 4x400, set last year at 3:19.50.

Wooster earned double All-NCAC honors in the 100 hurdles as Hargrave won in 15 seconds and Mary Sirois came in at third (15.91).

Hargrave racked up another All-NCAC honor in the 400 hurdles, finishing second in 1:06.68.

Athena Tharenos placed third for All-NCAC honors in the 5,000 meters, running a time of 18:48.28.

Sophomore Drew Robertson secured All-NCAC honors in a tight 1500-meter race. He placed third in 3:57.83 behind the second-place finish of 3:56.32 and ahead of the fourth-place finisher of 3:58.54.

Another third-place finish came thanks to Will Callender who earned All-NCAC honors in the 5,000-meter run. His time of 15:07.39 was a personal best for him and one that puts him sixth in the program's top times.

Elsewhere, Echo Kidd placed fourth in the triple jump, reaching 44 feet.

Kidd also placed sixth in the high jump (6 feet, 2.75 inches), while Luke Henke tied for seventh (6 feet, .75 inches).

The senior Shilts came in fourth in the 400 hurdles in 57.41 seconds, just missing on All-NCAC honors. Jake George followed in sixth at 59.45 seconds.

First-year Lorenzo Freeman placed fifth in the 110 hurdles in 15.46 seconds.

Other women's performances included senior Claudia Partridge who tied for fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, .25 inches, while junior Drew Patterson followed in sixth with the same height but cleared it in more attempts.

Maia Doescher tied for eighth in the event as well at 4 feet, 10.25 inches.

Patterson also came in seventh in the triple jump (34 feet, 2.75 inches).

First-year Evie Sanford placed fifth in the discus where her first throw was her best at 122 feet, four inches. Ainsley Wiesner placed fifth in the hammer throw at 149 feet.

The women's 4x400 team finished in fourth, running a 4:04.89 behind the team of Haley BloomIgna Mendez, Partridge and Izzy Cozzie.

The 4x100 team placed sixth in 50.35 seconds behind the team of Doescher, Cozzie, Patterson and Clare Mackin.

Finally, Emily Munson came in sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:12.35).

Next up for the Scots, they head to Baldwin Wallace University on Friday for the Harrison Dillard Twilight.
