Garretson Hits New Heights in Last Chance Meet

Dylan Garretson ALLIANCE – The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field team competed in The University of Mount Union's NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday.

Junior Dylan Garretson further improved his pole vault record, reaching 16 feet, 4.75 inches. He successfully completed his first three attempts of the event, before hitting his new, best height on his third try.

The height will move him into a tie of sixth nationally and will secure him a spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships.

In the 400 dash, senior Will McMichael entered with the 19th best time nationally. On Thursday, he ran a time of 47.73 seconds, while classmate Nick Scherson finished in 49.23 seconds. Both were slightly off their season-best times.

McMichael and Scherson then teamed with Joe Shilts and Cam Ray in the 4x400 and ran to a time of 3:22.41.

Elsewhere, Echo Kidd leaped 40 feet, 4.75 inches in the triple jump. He also hit 21 feet, 8 inches in the long jump.

Senior Luke Henke reached six feet in the high jump.

For the women, senior Claudia Partridge entered 23rd nationally in the high jump, but she could not improve her season-best jump, reaching 5 feet, .25 inches Thursday. Junior Drew Patterson jumped five feet, 2.25 inches.

Sophomore Daysia Hargrave raced to 15.05 seconds in the 100 hurdles. First-year Evie Sanford threw 113 feet, two inches in the discus, and junior Ainsley Wiesner threw 159 feet, four inches in the hammer throw.

The qualifiers for the NCAA DIII Championships will be announced Friday. The event takes place in Rochester, N.Y. from May 25-27.
