Men’s Track & Field Climbs Into National Rankings

Dylan Garretson, Wooster track & field The College of Wooster's men's track and field team climbed into this week's national rankings, published by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Wooster checked in at No. 25.

In lieu of a traditional voted-upon top-25 poll, national track and field rankings are determined solely on performance and mathematical computations based on submitted official times and marks to AthleticsNET. AthleticsNET pulls together its computations based on performance lists from TFRRS, the industry-standard meet results database.

First-year sensation King Jeju and senior Dylan Garretson are the driving forces behind Wooster's ranking. Jeju debuted on Jan. 13 by breaking a 32-year-old school record in the long jump. Jeju's mark of 24 feet, 1 inch is currently fourth nationally. Garretson, Wooster's first men's indoor All-American, nearly bested his school record at the Youngstown State University Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Jan. 19. Garretson's season-best mark of 16 feet, 1.25 inches ranks sixth nationally.

Other Fighting Scots with top-100 rankings on TFRRS are junior Echo Kidd (high jump, 6 feet, 4 inches, 66th), sophomore Lorenzo Freeman (60-meter hurdles, 8.52, 83rd), sophomore Essaie Mezmur (high jump, 6 feet, 2.75 inches, 87th), first-year Robbie Kugler (high jump, 6 feet, 2.75 inches, 87th), and Jeju (60-meter dash, 7.00, 93rd).

Wooster returns to action at Saturday's Bob Shannon Invitational at Denison University. The meet starts at 11 a.m.
