AKRON, Ohio – Dylan Garretson, an integral part of The College of Wooster men's track and field team's top-25 national ranking this week, upped his indoor school record from 16 feet, 2.5 inches to 16 feet, 7.5 inches on Friday evening at the University of Akron's Invitational.
Garretson started the day sixth nationally after just missing on upping the school record at Youngstown State University's Track & Field Invitational on Jan. 19. There, Garretson cleared the crossbar at 16 feet, 1.25 inches. With his new school record, Garretson is up to second nationally, trailing Catholic University of America's Christian Di Nicolantonio, who cleared 17 feet, 0.75 inch on Jan. 20.
Garretson's brother, Hunter, won the event, clearing 18 feet, 5.25 inches.
Wooster's full team competes in Saturday's Bob Shannon Invitational, which starts at 11 a.m. at Denison University. Garretson's duty in the Ohio National Guard necessitated the superstar senior to compete separately in Friday's meet.
