Hargrave’s Win in 100 Hurdles Leads Wooster’s All-NCAC Efforts on Saturday

GRANVILLE – The College of Wooster women's and men's track and field teams placed fifth and seventh, respectively, as the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships wrapped at Denison University on Saturday.

The Wittenberg women won with 192.5 points, while Wooster finished with 93.5 points On the men's side, Wabash won with 156 points with Wooster finishing with 54 points.

First-year King Jeju was named Men's Newcomer of the Year following his performance this weekend. After he won the long jump on Friday, he earned another All-NCAC honor, but this time in the triple jump, reaching 44 feet, 8.25 inches for third.

Junior Daysia Hargrave was another of the main stories for the Scots on Saturday as she went back-to-back in the 100 hurdles, winning the event for the second straight year. This time she came in at 14.55 seconds.

Later, Hargrave earned All-NCAC honors in the 400 hurdles. She ran for a personal best of 1:03.45 for second place behind the first-place time of 1:02.93 from DePauw's Katie Moore.

That new time from Hargrave put her fourth in the record books in the 400 hurdles.

Evie Sanford and Ainsley Wiesner exploded for new personal records in the shot put. Sanford broke the school record with a throw of 41 feet, .5 inches, which earned her All-NCAC honors and second place. It was a record held since 1999 when Tracy Wilkes threw 40 feet, five inches.

Wiesner's throw of 39 feet, 6.75 inches gave her fifth and moved her up to fourth in the record book.

However, Wiesner did earn All-NCAC honors in the hammer throw, placing second with a throw of 156 feet, four inches. First-year Samarah Destin also scored for the Scots, placing seventh at 130 feet, three inches.

Others who scored for the women included senior Mary Sirois, who scored in the 100 hurdles as well, placing fourth (15.86).

The 4x400 team finished fourth in 4:03.43 behind the team of Izzy CozzieIgna MendezAthena Tharenos and Hargrave. The 4x100 team placed fifth as Drew Patterson, Cozzie, Claire Davis and Hargrave ran a time of 50 seconds.

Patterson placed sixth in the triple jump (33 feet, 7.25 inches) and seventh in the 100 (12.97), and Tharenos finished sixth in the 1500 (4:48.78).

On the men's side, Wooster took fourth and fifth in the high jump. Luke Henke, who placed fourth, and Echo Kidd, who placed fifth, each reached 6 feet, 4.25 inches.

Drew Robertson was sixth in a tight race in the 1500 (3:59.80).

The 4x100 team off Liam ReganWill Harris IICooper Norwell and Khaleel Manderson ran 43.50 seconds in the 4x100 for seventh. The 4x400 team also finished seventh (3:28.24) thanks to Joe ShiltsCam RayNate Chartrand and Regan.

Rob Mays III threw 44 feet in the shot put for eighth, and Shilts was eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.85).

Next, the Scots will compete at the Harrison Dillard Twilight at Baldwin Wallace University.
