Slow Start Sets Tone in Loss to Gators

Harley Holloway MEADVILLE, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's basketball team struggled out the gate in a 57-34 North Coast Athletic Conference loss to Allegheny College on Tuesday.

Sophomore Harley Holloway scored a game-high 14 points. She also added five rebounds and four steals.

Senior Jenna Stanton scored six points and four rebounds. First-year Tamara Turner recorded five points and a team-high six rebounds.

Alexis Caldwell led Allegheny with 13 points and 21 rebounds for the double double.

Allegheny scored the game's first 15 points. First-year Kay Robinson came off the bench and gave Wooster its first basket – a 3-pointer with 1:40 left in the quarter.

It was Robinson's first 3-pointer as a Fighting Scot and her only basket of the game.

Allegheny led 17-5 after the first and 25-9 at halftime.

Wooster doubled its offensive production of the first half within the first four minutes of the third quarter. Unfortunately, its deficit remained at 16 midway through the quarter as Allegheny matched the Scots to stay in the lead 46-28 at the end of three quarters.

Wooster could not get any closer in the fourth after shooting 1-for-13 in the quarter.

The Scots finished the game shooting under 20 percent from the floor (11-of-57). They shot 12 percent (3-of-26) from deep but went 75 percent (9-of-12) from the foul line.

Allegheny shot 37 percent (23-of-62) from the floor, 29 percent (2-of-7) from range and 48 percent (9-of-19) from the foul line.

Allegheny outrebounded Wooster 58-33.

Wooster is now 4-17 overall and 3-9 in the NCAC. Allegheny moves to 5-16 and 2-11 in conference play.

Next, Wooster hosts Wittenberg University (11-7, 6-4 NCAC) on Saturday for senior day.
