Women Battle The Bishops

DELAWARE – The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell to Ohio Wesleyan University 78-39 in an away North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.

Both teams had a trio of players lead their respective squads. Most notably, Ohio Wesleyan junior Kasey Schipfer led all with a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor.

The Bishops also had two others score 12 each in Alyssa Griner and Lauren Denison.

For Wooster, first-year Ella Biondi scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She got to the basket successfully and converted 6-of-8 foul shot opportunities.

Namara Rwakatare scored nine points off the bench, and Shalen Guilliams scored eight in the start.

Guilliams gave Wooster its only lead at 3-2 thanks to an assist from Chloe Pordash. The Scots trailed 8-5 heading into the second portion of the quarter until Ohio Wesleyan went on an 11-4 run in the final 4:36.

Ohio Wesleyan only increased its lead by two in the second quarter to take a 33-20 advantage into the second half. Biondi scored the first basket to bring the lead to single digits. Later, the Bishops increased its lead to 17 before Rwakatare scored the next six points to give Wooster a mini 6-0 run.

In the third, Ohio Wesleyan hit some shots and held Wooster to just seven points to lead 58-27 after three. 

Wooster shot just 27 percent (12-of-45) from the floor and went 2-of-16 (13 percent) from deep but shot a respectable 68 percent (13-of-19) from the charity stripe.

On the other end, Ohio Wesleyan finished the game at 46 percent (31-of-68) from the floor and 42 percent (8-of-19) from 3-point range.

Wooster committed 27 turnovers to Ohio Wesleyan's 15 and were outrebounded 42-31.

Ohio Wesleyan moved a game over .500 with the win at 7-6 and move to 2-0 in NCAC play. Wooster falls to 1-12 and 0-2 in the conference.

Next up, Wooster travels to Kenyon College on Wednesday before welcoming Wittenberg University to Timken Gymnasium next Saturday.
