Denison Takes NCAC Win

Alex Walker Everyone who saw action for The College of Wooster women's basketball team scored on Saturday as the Scots took a 74-52 loss to Denison University.

First-year Shalen Guilliams had another standout game with a game-high 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting and a 50 percent mark (4-of-8) from range. She is now averaging 21.7 points in her last three games.

Junior Alex Walker reached a new career-high with six points off the bench. She also recorded four rebounds.

First-year Ella Dean also scored six points, while four others scored four. Erica Beaty led the game with eight rebounds.

Denison was led by a 14-point performance from Gabby Elliott.

Wooster shined with a 20-11 fourth quarter. Denison led by as many as 38 late in the third, but Wooster was able to cut that lead to 22 by the end of the game.

Denison shot 43 percent (29-of-68) from the floor, while Wooster shot 26 percent (15-of-58). Wooster got off to a rough start with a 2-of-17 first quarter.

The Scots also made 71 percent (17-of-24) of its free throw attempts and shot 33 percent (5-of-15) from deep. Denison shot just 18 percent (3-of-17) from range and 59 percent (13-of-22) from the foul line.

Denison used its speed to outscore Wooster 20-1 in fast break points. They also used its size for a 46-16 advantage for points in the paint and held a slight advantage in rebounds 45-39.

Denison moves to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster drops to 1-16 and 0-6 in conference play.

Wooster will host Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday.
