Biondi's Eight Blocks Ties Single Game Program Record

Ella Biondi GRANVILLE – First-year Ella Biondi tied the program record with eight blocks on Wednesday in The College of Wooster women's basketball team's 94-51 loss to Denison University.

Biondi also was a force on the offensive end, scoring a game-high 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting. She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, putting her just a few ticks off from not just a double-double but a triple-double as well.

Prior to Biondi's feat, two players in Wooster history recorded eight blocks in a game, the last time being in 2011 by Jessica Wingen.

First-year Shalen Guilliams chipped in 13 points and three steals, and classmate Mia Walker added 12 points.

Denison opened the North Coast Athletic Conference matchup with a press and put the pressure on Wooster from the offset to take a 22-7 lead in the first quarter.

Senior Riley Thorr came off the bench to score five of the team's first quarter points. Biondi scored nine of her 11 first half points in the second quarter.

Wooster upped its offense in the second quarter but so did the Big Red, who took a 54-27 lead at halftime, which was enough to cruise to the win in the second half.

Denison was led by 17 points from Maddie Goodman, 15 points from Abigail Westmeyer and 13 points from Gabby Elliott.

It was tough for Wooster to compete with the volume of shots Denison put up, as they shot 39-of-92 (43 percent) from the floor. Wooster shot equally as well at 40 percent but took just 52 shots in the game.

Denison (9-15, 4-9 NCAC) also won the rebounding battle 51-34. They forced 29 turnovers and scored 38 points off Wooster's mistakes.

Wooster (1-23, 0-13) will wrap up regular season play when they host DePauw University on Saturday.
