Women Bow Out of NCAC Tournament

Ella Biondi SPRINGFIELD – The College of Wooster women's basketball team could not knock off top seed Wittenberg University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Quarterfinal on Tuesday, falling 76-43.

Ella Biondi capped off a stellar ending for her first-year campaign posting a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. She also added four blocks and two steals.

Biondi averaged a double-double in her last three games, averaging 20 points and 12.7 rebounds.

Mia Walker finished with eight points. Senior Namara Rwakatare finished with six off the bench, and Ella Dean scored four.

Four starters reached double figures in scoring for the Tigers. They were led by 17 points from Jaz Gaines-Burns.

The Scots led early at 4-1 and trailed at 11-10 after a Dean 3-pointer with 3:53 left in the quarter. However, Wittenberg closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 21-12 after the first.

Wittenberg only extended its lead in the second and third quarters, leading 40-23 at halftime and 62-29 after three.

Wooster shot 28 percent from the floor (17-of-60), 23 percent from range (3-of-13) and 60 percent (6-of-10) from the foul line. Wittenberg shot 41 percent (30-of-74), 39 percent (9-of-23) from 3-point range and 70 percent (7-of-10) from the line.

Wittenberg (21-4) scored 22 points off Wooster (1-25) turnovers and outrebounded the Scots 40-33.

With the loss comes the end of the season, Wooster says goodbye to its three seniors in Rwakatare, Riley Thorr and Paige Wells.
