Chritz Leads All Scorers in Trip to Denison

Alyssa Chritz GRANVILLE -- The College of Wooster women's basketball team struggled in its second North Coast Athletic Conference game on Saturday, falling to Denison University 81-39.

Senior Alyssa Chritz led all scorers with 14 points. First-year Ace Sturdivant followed with eight points.

Erica Beaty collected six points and five rebounds, while Ella Biondi scored four points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

First-year Alexis Lovejoy scored three on a 3-pointer, and Melissa Burtscher and Kylie Parsons each contributed two points.

Denison (9-3, 0-1 NCAC) had two reach double figures in scoring as Bryana Woodard scored 11, and Abby Cooch scored 10.

Wooster (4-7, 0-1 NCAC) took an early lead thanks to a Sturdivant jumper, but Denison would go on to score the next six. Biondi scored her first bucket shortly after, and Chritz connected on three straight free throws for Wooster to cut the lead to 10-7 in the first.

Denison would then embark on a mini 6-0 run to pull ahead 16-7 and later take the first quarter 26-16. By halftime, they led 46-22.

Denison won the third quarter 15-11 and kept the pressure on to take the fourth.

Wooster shot just 19 percent (10 of 53) in enemy territory, while Denison shot 46 percent (31 of 68).

Denison outrebounded Wooster 45-39 and got 40 points from its bench.

Wooster returns home for two conference games next week with the first being against Hiram College on Wednesday.
