Scots Fall on Road to Tigers

SPRINGFIELD – Playing without two of their top leading scorers, The College of Wooster women's basketball team lost to Wittenberg University on Saturday, 74-38.

First-year Alexis Lovejoy scored eight points off the bench, going 2 of 5 from deep and 2 of 2 from the foul line to lead the Scots in the North Coast Athletic Conference matchup.

Senior Alyssa Chritz scored seven, sophomore Ella Biondi tallied six points, seven rebounds and classmate Erica Beaty added six points and six boards.

Wittenberg was led by an 18-point, 12-rebound performance from Riane Burton.

First-year Anna Hardink made the first basket of the game but Wooster (6-17, 1-11 NCAC) would fall behind 12-4 in the early goings. The Scots made some ground thanks to four straight points from Chritz and ended the first trailing 14-8.

From there, Wittenberg (16-6, 9-3 NCAC) took control with an 18-7 second quarter and a 24-9 third.

The Tigers shot 45 percent (31 of 69) for the game, while Wooster shot just 23 percent (13 of 57). Wittenberg won the rebounding battle 40-33 and scored 22 points off 19 Wooster turnovers.

Wooster did find success at the foul line, shooting 75 percent on 12 attempts.

Two NCAC regular season games remain for the Scots. They host Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday in their home finale.
